Most problems fall into one of the cases below. If yours doesn't, get in touch and we'll help.

The download keeps failing or starting over

The one-time 2.6 GB model download cannot resume. If the connection drops, it starts again from the beginning — that's a limitation of where the model is hosted, not a bug in the app.

• Use Wi-Fi you can stay on, and keep the app open
• Avoid switching networks partway through
• If it fails, tap Try again — it will start cleanly

Expect roughly 5 to 15 minutes on a decent connection.

"This device isn't supported"

The translation model needs about 6 GB of device memory. On phones with less, it would load and then be killed by the system partway through a translation.

Rather than let you spend 2.6 GB of data to reach a crash, Linguago checks first and tells you. There is unfortunately no workaround — the model is simply too large for the device.

"Voice playback is unavailable for this language"

Linguago uses your phone's own speech engine to read translations aloud, and that engine needs voice data for the language installed.

On Android: Settings → General management → Text-to-speech → your engine → Install voice data → choose your language.

On iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

The translated text is still correct and stays on screen — only the spoken playback is affected.

It mishears what I say

This is the most common complaint, and it's a real limitation. Speech recognition runs entirely on your phone, so it is less accurate than a service that sends your voice to a data centre. That's the trade for your voice never leaving the device.

What helps:

• Hold the phone closer and speak clearly
• Find a quieter spot — background noise hurts accuracy a lot
• Speak in complete sentences; short fragments give the model less to work with
• Tap the text box and type instead. Typing skips speech recognition entirely and gives noticeably more accurate translations.

"Sorry, I didn't catch that"

The model heard something but couldn't produce a usable translation. Try speaking again, or type the phrase into the box — typing almost always works where speech didn't.

The translation looks wrong

Linguago is in beta. Translation quality varies between languages: English, French and Chinese have had the most testing, and the others less so.

If a result is wrong, you can edit the transcription in the text box and translate again — often the speech was misheard rather than mistranslated.

Where is my data?

On your phone, and nowhere else. Recordings are deleted as soon as they've been read, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account or server. See the privacy policy for the full detail, including the one exception worth knowing about.

How do I remove everything?

Delete the app. That removes the model, your settings and everything else. Nothing is left behind on any server, because nothing was ever sent to one.
